X-Spat Controller II
The system software, the same for each model of X-spat serie, is called X-Spat Controller II. Available only in Mac OS X Universal version, it has always been a freeware since issue 1.0 and this new "incarnation" identified by the II (in roman numbers, just like to say 2.0), doesn't makes any difference; even if the quantity of new features and the high ergonomic level of its GUI put the software at the same level of others softwares sold in the pro audio market at several hundreds of Euro and protected with hardware keys.
If you do not know it yet (you can download it freely from here), the software has always permitted the creation of virtual paths. Those paths, or trajectories, as you prefer, are used to simulate the correspondent behaviours, in the real space, of the audio sources in input in the hardware. You can draw those paths it a GUI made by coloured spheres included in some windows more or less big. To each sphere correspond an input channel of X-spat boX. The window represents the ambient in which will be really performed the 3D audio spatial simulation. In this new version, the software features three typical kind of views, top, front and side, together with a real 3D monitor window in OpenGL. The spheres can be moved in the window by the mouse or using an external MIDI controller. (For example our software for iPhone® called 3Director). The editing and playback operations are synchronized to an internal sequencer in MIDI Time Code and the sync code can be generated, send or received also to or from an external hardware. All the available parameters, for any X-spat boX, are automated and assigned to a particular MIDI message and this permits the sound designer to control the virtual positions using ambient sensors or any standard MIDI sequencer. The most relevant news for this upgrade are the ReWire support, the real time automation of all the parameters and the possibility to mix directly to hard disk if the boX has the optional FireWire card installed.
